Getting divorced usually involves a few complications down the road. It can be challenging to navigate life co-parenting with a former partner, and it can be hard to see the person you once loved fall in love with someone new. A woman went to Reddit in August 2020 to share a frustrating situation she was in regarding her ex-husband and his new wife.<\/p>\n
The original poster (OP) explained that she and her husband had divorced 12 years prior. They share custody of their two children and have a pretty good co-parenting relationship. They haven\u2019t had any issues with each other since their divorce, and it\u2019s clear that all romantic feelings have faded.<\/p>\n
Everything was going well until OP\u2019s ex remarried. She was happy for the couple, but not thrilled with the new wife\u2019s outlandish request. The new wife had decided to take her husband\u2019s last name, something that has been a common tradition for many years.<\/p>\n
Since she had taken the man\u2019s last name, the new wife didn\u2019t think it was right for OP to continue to have the same last name and told her that she needed to change it. OP has had an extremely successful career and has been issued several professional certificates and licenses, all of which have her current name on them. She kept her ex\u2019s last name since it was easier and she wouldn\u2019t have to change all of her formal documents.<\/p>\n
The two women proceeded to argue through text messages, and OP\u2019s ex even got involved. Seeking advice, OP turned to Redditors for their help.<\/p>\n

The wife\u2019s first text read<\/a>: \u201cSo I think now that me and (ex) are married you should change your name. After all there can be only one Mrs. (ex\u2019s last name). She wanted to keep it for her own reasons but also because her children had the same last name. Their oldest was in the army, so having the same last name made it a little easier to visit him when possible.<\/p>\n
